Edwin Sutanto

Profile

Edwin Sutanto is an early career bioinformatician with experience in malaria research analysis. He is a Senior Bioinformatician at EXEINS Health Initiative (Jakarta, Indonesia), collaborating with Sarah Auburn’s team at Menzies School of Health Research. His work focuses on Plasmodium vivax genomics, specifically methods that can unravel the cause of recurrence (recrudescence, reinfection, or relapse) in P. vivax infections. Currently, he is characterising relatedness of parasites within polyclonal P. vivax infections from MalariaGEN Pv4 dataset to understand the distribution of recurrence in different regions of the world and the factors that might come into play. He is also involved in the development of molecular assays that can predict the most probable cause of recurrent P. vivax infections. Together with Rintis Noviyanti, the assay is currently being tested to support the establishment of malaria surveillance in Indonesia.
