Fiqry Hasan Kleib

Profile

Fiqry Hasan Kleib is a PhD at Menzies School of Health Research, where he is investigating the hidden splenic reservoir of Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, and P. malariae infections in patients undergoing splenectomy in Timika, Papua. His project leverages histopathology, single-cell and spatial tissue transcriptomics to deeply characterise splenic Plasmodium reservoirs from parasite and host cells aspects. This includes answering questions of how these parasites are able to accumulate in the spleen, evade the immune system, potentially develop drug tolerance/resistance, and interact with host immune cells to enable splenic survival. Ultimately, these findings will contribute foundational knowledge in splenic malaria biology and may lead to improved strategies for malaria control, treatment, and prevention. Fiqry is supervised by Dr Steven Kho, Professor Sarah Auburn, Dr Hidayat Trimarsanto, Professor Nick Anstey from Menzies, Dr Damian Oyong from the Burnet Institute, Australia and Dr Rintis Noviyanti from Exeins Health Initiative, Indonesia.
