Patsy Zendejas-Heredia

Patsy is a Research Fellow in the laboratory of Professor Alyssa Barry at Deakin University. She is currently investigating Plasmodium falciparum artemisinin resistance in Papua New Guinea and developing Nanopore-based metabarcoding tools for comprehensive pathogen detection. Patsy completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne, where she studied zoonotic soil-transmitted helminths across the Asia-Pacific and the Americas, combining molecular epidemiology and population genetics to explore parasite transmission dynamics. Her expertise also extends to other Neglected Tropical Diseases, including lymphatic filariasis. Patsy is a passionate One Health researcher who aims to harness genomics to generate practical, context-specific insights that improve disease control in endemic settings.
